چکیده

Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) offer quick and easy network deployment in situations where it is not possible otherwise and they can be used to provide mobile users with a temporary infrastructure to use services in the absence of fixed infrastructure. Nodes in MANETs are free to move and organize themselves in an arbitrary fashion. The challenging task in such dynamic environments is how to improve the service availability. Replicating a service at some nodes distributed across the network is an effective strategy. However, service replication can considerably impact the system energy consumption. Since mobile devices have limited battery resources, a dynamic and efficient service replication is necessary to support such environments. In this paper, we propose a distributed service replication scheme for achieving high service availability with reasonable energy consumption for MANETs. The proposed method called HDAR (Highly Distributed Adaptive Service Replication) divides the whole network into disjoint zones of at most 2-hops in diameter and builds a dynamic replication mechanism which selects new replica zones depending on their service demand and the tradeoff between the communication and replication energy consumption costs. Through simulations, we confirmed that our approach can achieve higher service availability with reasonable energy consumption than existing methods. key words: MANET, Service replication, Service availability, Energy consumption.

Evaluation of Distributed Event Notification Protocols in Highly Unstable MANETs

In the Ad-Hoc Infoware project, we design middleware services for emergency and rescue scenarios in MANETs. In these scenarios, the MANETs can be highly unstable, with frequent network partitioning and merging, and resources can be scarce. In this paper, we present three protocols for a distributed event notification service (DENS) that address these concerns. We describe the protocols, their i...

Slinky: An Adaptive Protocol for Content Access in Disruption-Tolerant Ad Hoc Networks

The topology of tactical MANETs may vary from well connected to severely disconnected. Applications using the clientserver paradigm often do not perform well in such environments, because they rely on the underlying MANET routing protocols to provide connectivity between arbitrary endpoints, which is often infeasible in tactical MANETs. We consider content-based networking as an alternative par...

FTSCP: An Efficient Distributed Fault-Tolerant Service Composition Protocol for MANETs

Service composition, which enables users to construct complex services from atomic services, is an essential feature for the usability of Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs). Service composition in MANETs should be fault-tolerant and distributed. Efforts in this area are rare and sounds not meet the requirements very well. In this paper, we present a distributed Fault-Tolerant Service Composition P...

A MAC Scheme with QoS Guarantee for MANETs

IEEE 802.11 distributed coordination function (DCF) can alleviate the collision and hidden station problem, but it doesn’t differentiate traffic categories (TC). Therefore, it can’t provide sufficient QoS support for different traffic categories. Recently, a new contention-based enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA) scheme was proposed which provides a probabilistic QoS support. In this pa...

Dynamic Replication based on Firefly Algorithm in Data Grid

In data grid, using reservation is accepted to provide scheduling and service quality. Users need to have an access to the stored data in geographical environment, which can be solved by using replication, and an action taken to reach certainty. As a result, users are directed toward the nearest version to access information. The most important point is to know in which sites and distributed sy...
